Having a great team of volunteers is crucial to the success of Big Red Run. There are a wide variety of roles, to suit volunteers from all walks of life. Volunteers will have an
amazing weeklong experience in the outback, and will be included in all the fun, so it's a great way to participate and lend a helping hand at the same time!
Some volunteer roles that require filling are:
Checkpoint Staff - set up and staff the remote course check points. Includes set up
shade shelter, timing area and water supply. Work with the medical team to monitor the condition of the runners.
Camp Staff - general tasks around camp including setting up the runner tents, officials
/ timing tent, medical tent, toilets, water supply etc.
Traffic Marshals - work with event organisers to help organise safe vehicle movements
between camps and checkpoints. Marshal the 4WD track crossing points that the runners will use.
Course Setters - place the course markers before each stage.
- check the markers just before use.
- follow the last runners and clear the course markers.
Medical Team (Doctors, Paramedics, First Aiders, Nurses) - work with the medical and
safety directors to provide runner monitoring, preventative health care, first aid and medical response to runners on the course and in camp.
Course Coordinator - Coordinate the course setting, fore-running, sweeps teams and
transport of teams to various course legs.
General Duties & Administration - assist with event administration and coordination,
and any other general duties that arise during the event.
- take interesting and exciting quality photos of the event and competitors.
Volunteers are welcome to bring their own 4WD's, however if you don't own one, we are able to transport you around the course as needed.
So what's in it for you?!?
As a volunteer you will receive a Big Red Run shirt, tent accommodation, pre and post race dinners, campsite entertainment and of course you get to be involved in supporting the
Big Red Run. We are also offering volunteers $100 off bus or plane fares if you wish to travel to the event on either of these.
Volunteers will be set up on a rostered system, ensuring you have some free time to mingle with new friends and enjoy everything the beautiful Simpson Desert has to offer.
The feedback we had from 2013 Volunteers was that it was a great and unique experience, and one that they will remember for a long time to come. Many volunteers have asked to come
back again in 2014!
Volunteer application forms will be available shortly, and in the meantime if you have any questions about volunteering please
