The safety of the participants is the highest priority for the race organisers. Safety comes first before anything else, which means that if the event has to be called off or suspended due to any issue that may compromise the safety of competitors, the organisers will not hesitate to do that.
A full risk management plan is in place that has been developed specifically for the event, and this is implemented through the event safety plan.
Each runner is issued with a full course map, and instructions on what to do in the event of an emergency or a situation requiring course evacuation.
All volunteers are issued with a crew booklet with emergency details and contact details of all people they may need to contact during the event. All key event officials will have a radio or Satellite phone for communications.
The event has a high level of IT and communications infrastructure in place, including satellite phones for key event staff and volunteers, and satellite internet connection at campsite for organisers use.
There will also be a duplex radio communications system across the course allowing all event officials to be in constant radio communications throughout the event.
Each competitor in the Big Red Run will have a GPS satellite tracker to enable the race organisers to keep track of their exact location at any point in time, and also allow participants to signal for help should they require assistance at any point in time.
Video, pictures and results from the event will be posted to the event website regularly throughout the event, so people in the outside world can keep up to date with all of the action from the event as it unfolds.
