Big Red Run Experience

I was inspired to enter the 2014 Big Red Run because I believe in its mission to fight Type 1 Diabetes with fitness. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 5 and my twin sister was diagnosed at the age of 19, so this is a cause very close to my heart. I personally found it impossible to manage my diabetes until I took up running in 2010. I passionately believe that keeping active is the best thing I can do to help regulate my blood glucose levels and prevent the long-term complications of Type 1 Diabetes.

Everyone who has participated in the Big Red Run knows what it’s like to go through the highs and lows of a multi-day race. Try doing it with Type 1 Diabetes! On Day 1 my glucose levels dropped super low, while on Day 5 they went through the roof. But with the support of great volunteers, I refused to give up and crossed the finish line on Day 6 with a smile on my face as big as Big Red! I know from experience that having Type 1 Diabetes does not stop you from achieving awesome things. All you have to do is take the first step…
